Awarded:

• Ilya Repin State Prize of the Russian Federation (1968).

• Silver medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, 1967).

1939–1945 Studied at Moscow Intermediate Art school, in the class of Vasily Pochitalov, Pavel Koshevoi, Sergei Mikhailov.

1945–1951 Studied at the department of painting at the Surikov Art Institute, in the class of Dmitry Mochalsky, Georgy Savitsky and Vasily Pochitalov.

Since 1950s he has made a lot of tours of the country, especially to the North regions, where he collected material for his future works. His trips to Omsk, Irkutsk. Lake Baikal, Yenisei and Angara River, Pskov, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Vladimir, Arkhangelsk, Novgorod regions, the Komi Republic and abroad resulted in a great amount of studies, which later were realized in his paintings.

Since 1959 he made artistic tours to Italy (1959, 1964 -1967), France (1960), Great Britain (1971).

Vladimir Stozharov’s paintings can be found in the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) and in about 90 museums of Russia and former Soviet republics, also in art galleries of Vladivostok, Kursk, Penza, Syktyvkar, Salsk, Taganrog, Overland Gallery of Fine Art (Scottsdale, USA), the Museum of Russian Art (Bloomington, Minnesota, USA) and some public museums of UK, Germany, France, Italy, Finland and Japan.

Exhibitions:

In 1954 he participated in All-Union Art Exhibition. 1955 -1959 Participated in yearly exhibitions of young artists in Russia.

In 1966 he participated in the 33rd International Biennale in Venice. 1971-1972 Exhibited in group exhibition in Romania.

Personal exhibitions:

Traveled with a one-man exhibition to Syktyvkar, Arkhangelsk, Kirov, Izhevsk, Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod), Kuibyshev (now Samara), Ulyanovsk, Astrakhan, Kostroma, Ryazan, Bryansk, Kalinin (now Tver), Tula, Kaluga and Smolensk.
